Ben Watkins 11-year-old chef competes on Masterchef Junior after losing both parents on the same day. Before the deaths of his parents, Leila Edwards and Michael Watkins, he worked beside them in the family restaurant “Big Ben’s Bodacious Barbeque & Deli.” The restaurant was in fact named after Ben because of his love for cooking. His mom also owned Wonderland Stained Glass studio and both parents were active in the community. So, when they were found dead of an apparent murder suicide everyone was taken aback.

This amazing young man is still following his dreams despite the tragic and sudden deaths of his parents. Ben has been cooking since the age of three. So, when the opportunity of competing on Gordon Ramsay’s Masterchef Junior he and his family decided to refocus their energy and help young Ben Follow his dream. “We are so thrilled to have Ben on this season of MasterChef Junior, and although there have been some trials in his young life, he is really focused on his culinary dreams and time on the show,” Fox spokeswoman Allie Hall told The Times of Northwest Indiana. The 5th grader also enjoys math and science. A GOFUNDME account started by Trent McCain, a parent at Ben’s school, has already raised more than $21,000.
