#BlackGirlMagic was flowing down the Winter Olympics as Maame Biney became the first African-American woman to qualify for the US Olympic team in speed skating, with two victories at 500 meters.
Even after a slip on the ice after finding out that she qualified “When I realized I made the Olympic team, I started cheering like crazy and then I made my epic fall,” she said later. “So, yeah, you’re welcome.”
Biney Born in 2000 in ACcra, Ghana started skating at six years old shortly after moving to Reston, Virginia to live with her Father. She quickly developed skill and a love for skating. The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games will be Biney’s first Olympics. However, she has already proved to be a force to reckon with. We are so proud of your accomplishments and can’t wait to see you on the Ice.
