The image of the beautiful young girl with the puffballs wearing a pink and red parka with her eyes focused on Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s picture has become a viral sensation and rightfully so. Parker Curry was with Her mom Jessica Curry touring the National Portrait Gallery when she spotted royalty and was awestruck. Parker even told her mom that “Michelle Obama is a queen, and she wants to be a queen as well.”
The Awesome moment was captured by Ben Hinds who was with his mom at the time and posted the picture on his Facebook Page. Why is the image of this little girl admiring the Former First Lady? This displays how impressionable kids are and how the images they see impact their lives and change the course of their future. It has been proven the black girls that have positive influences and a strong racial identity can more likely push themselves academically.
In the eyes of many, Former First Lady is royalty but the influence that her image has had on young Parker and many young girls is such an amazing thing. We need more images like this. We have a responsibility to balance out the images that the media displays to our kids.
Jessica Curry understands this and has been quoted saying “As a female and as a girl of color, it’s really important that I show her people who look like her that are doing amazing things and are making history so that she knows she can do it,”
